ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan has said that the Supreme Court has announced a historic verdict and the government will implement it. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he said that there is no need of two-thirds majority and the law will be approved through a simple majority. The attorney general said that the verdict was being presented in a strange manner and anti-Pakistan people abroad are getting its undue benefit. “We should not utter words against Pakistan to give an opportunity to others to speak against Pakistan,” he maintained. He said that it would be an honour for the government to formulate the law regarding the service tenure of the Army Chief. “The court ruled that the COAS will be appointed and given extension under the same law in future,” he said. Former law minister Farogh Naseem said that Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had announced the verdict keeping the country before him. “Why were the matters not resolved during the last 72 years? We thank the chief justice and other judges for guiding us,” he said. He said that there should be no ambiguity in the word that the COAS service tenure would end after six months. Farogh Naseem said that the court had not announced the verdict on the basis of a specific personality. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan said that democracy and judiciary have won today. “Those who expected instability in the country were disappointed,” she said. She said that the extension in the tenure of the COAS has started from today. “According to the court verdict, a law has to be introduced within six months. The prime minister and the parliament reserve the right to fix the tenure,” she said.
