Will resign if any residential house razed in Karachi: Karachi Mayor

KARACHI (92 News) – Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhter on Friday vowed that they would neither demolish any residential building in Karachi nor would they let anyone do so. Waseem Akhtar held a joint press conference together with Federal Minister for Information Technology Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. He said that some people have started point-scoring over the operation against encroachments. Akhter opposed the idea of razing illegal houses. “I will resign if a single house is razed,” he said. “We are clearing Karachi drains, footpaths and parks of encroachments," he said, adding, “A few individuals are doing politics on the operation against encroachments.” He announced that in the first phase, the KMC will arrange 1,000 shops for the affectees of the anti-encroachment drive as an alternative, adding that the KMC was supporting the affected people. On the occasion, speaking to the journalists, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the Supreme Court mandated the Karachi mayor for clearing encroachments in the metropolis and the mayor fulfilled all his responsibilities in that regard.
