Pervaiz Rashid says NAB-like work also being taken from FIA

LAHORE (92 News) – Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Pervaiz Rashid on Monday said that the work is also being taken from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) like the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Pervaiz Rashid appeared before the team FIA team in judge video scandal case today. He was interrogated about the controversial video related accountability court judge Arshad Malik. After his appearance, he criticized the high alert security around the FIA office and said that the FIA is being also used same like the NAB. He mentioned that the government has failed to keep the political opponents in the jails, adding that the innocent are being released from the courts. He maintained that the ANF also failed to level allegations against PML-N leaders Rana Sanaullah and Hanif Abbasi. He said that he shocked after hearing the questions from the FIA team because they have not any logic. “The person who always says not to give NRO, now he is giving the NRO to his friends,” the PML-N leader said. On the other hand, Uzma Bukhari excused herself from appearing before the team of FIA in judge video scandal case. The PML-N stalwart was asked to appear before the FIA team in the video scandal. Uzma Bukhari in her plea submitted in the FIA office through her lawyer, stated that she is unable to appear before it today, as she is currently abroad. “I will appear before the FIA team after landing back in the country”, she stated in her plea. The PML-N leader has also dispatched copy of her passport to the FIA team through courier service. Earlier, PML-N Deputy Secretary Attaullah Tarar appeared before the FIA in connection with its probe into a case related to the judge video scandal. Talking to the journalists after his appearance, the PML-N leader accused the government of appointing Wajid Zia, who led a joint investigation team that probed the Panama Papers case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, as FIA director general to target the opposition party. He also announced to challenge the appointment of Wajid Zia’s appointment as DG FIA. On the occasion, dozens of PML-N workers chanted slogans in the favor of party’s deputy secretary. On Thursday, the FIA conducted a raid at the PML-N’s secretariat in Lahore’s Model Town over Judge Arshad Malik video scandal. The FIA raided PML-N’s central secretariat in Model Town, Lahore in connection with former accountability court judge Arshad Malik’s video scandal case. The sources also said that the purpose of the raid was to confiscate material related to PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz’s presser in the case judge video scandal.

Video leak controversy

On July 6, Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former premier Nawaz Sharif, released alleged recorded video related to Judge Arshad Malik. Maryam Nawaz claimed that the person showed in the video during the meeting with Arshad Malik is lover of Nawaz Sharif. Nasir Butt met with the accountability court judge at his residence. Judge Malik, however, had said the video clip was not representative of their conversation. He had said it was cut and edited and was not reflective of what he said. The judge had said the PML-N, more notably Nawaz’s family, tried to bribe him during the former premier’s trial and when he didn’t cooperate, they threatened him.
