ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The World Cancer Awareness Day is being observed across the world on Monday. The World Cancer Day is an international day is marked on February 4 to increase awareness of cancer, and to encourage its prevention, early detection and treatment. The theme for World Cancer Day 2019 is - 'I am and I will'. According to an estimate, 150,000 people die of cancer in Pakistan annually, while estimated number of deaths due to cancer in 2018 was 9.5 million, which amounts to a whopping 26,000 deaths a day. In Pakistan, chest, mouth, lips and throat cancer are more common as compared to other countries. Mostly reasons for the deaths due to the disease are viral infection, pollution, food chemicals, smoking and alcohol. It is second main reason of deaths after heart disorders. Unreason weight loss, fever, blood in vomiting and stool are main symptoms of the disease. Exercise, excessive use of oily eatables and intoxication, especially use of beetle, tobacco and ‘Gutka’, are precautionary measures.
