LAHORE (92 News) – World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is being observed today as it is annually on March 24, to create public awareness about the illness which is responsible for 1.5 million global deaths each year. Tuberculosis is a curable and preventable disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (which generally affects the lungs). When people with lung TB cough, sneeze or spit, they propel the TB germs into the air. Multiple intervention are planned to observe the World TB Day by using different means like media, inter-personal communications to targeted population deliver the TB message. In his message, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that the government's endeavors for making Pakistan a progressive and developed country cannot succeed until we achieve a diseases-free society. He said that thousands of patients are annually benefiting from free diagnostic and treatment facilities in the country.
