LAHORE (92 News) – Young doctors and nurses continued their sit-in for the third consecutive day on the Mall Road on Thursday. Owing to the sit-in and blockage of The Mall and adjoining roads by the young doctors and nurses, the citizens are facing many problems. The YDA staged sit-in for the restoration of their colleagues including two doctors and a nurse who were sacked by the government for torturing the patients and their family members. The doctors were dismissed from duty for allegedly torturing a patient and his relatives on October 25. The protesters said that they would not end their sit-in till fulfillment of their demands and spent nights under open sky. On the other hand, a child and a cardiac patient have lost their lives for not receiving treatment as the emergency wards have been locked following the doctors’ protest. The government has hired 30 doctors on ad hoc basis, while five protesting doctors have also returned to their duties. Earlier, the government had completed arrangements to end the protest. A heavy contingent of the police with a water canon reached the site to deal with the protesters. Meanwhile, the Mayo Hospital MS has issued a termination notice to 15 house job doctors and 21 nurses. They have been asked to join the service till Thursday morning failing to which they will be sacked.
