ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza and Adviser to PM on Commerce and Industries Abdul Razak Dawood have came forward openly in support of pharmaceutical companies. According to the reports, both Dr Zafar Mirza and Razak Dawood opposed the removal of the self-authority of pharmaceutical companies to raise prices. The documents stated that Health Secretary Aamir Ashraf supported the removal of the self-power of the pharmaceutical companies. According to the Ministry of Health, the companies’ self authority to raise the prices of medicines is a violation of the Drugs Act. The Health Ministry has sent a summary to the federal cabinet to repeal paragraph 7 of the Drug Pricing Policy 2018. Under paragraph 7, pharmaceutical companies can increase prices without prior permission. Zafar Mirza approached the federal secretary cabinet and dropped the summary from the June 24 agenda. It is pertinent to mention here that will the option be withdrawn from the pharmaceutical companies or not? The decision will be taken by the federal cabinet today.
