Zainab Murder Case: ATC indicts prime accused Imran Ali
February 12, 2018
LAHORE (92 News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday indicted Imran Ali, the prime accused in the rape and murder case of minor seven-year-old Zainab Ansari in Kasur. ATC judge Sajjad Ahmed resumed hearing of the case inside the Kot Lakhpat Jail. In today’s proceedings, the ATC judge read out charges against the prime accused. On Saturday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan concluded the suo moto notice in Zainab murder case after the Punjab Inspector General Arif Nawaz told the court that a challan of the case had been submitted in an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC). The court expressed satisfaction over the investigation of police into the matter and concluded the hearing after reviewing a report submitted by the Punjab IGP. Dispensing the case, the chief justice ruled that the case should be decided within seven days in accordance with the verdict of the high court. The minor girl was raped and murdered after she was kidnapped in Kasur in the first week of last month. Zainab was assaulted and her body thrown in a garbage dump there earlier this month, stirring outrage across Pakistan and bringing to light a string of other abductions and slayings by a suspected serial predator. Her parents were on a pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia when she went missing.
