Zardari urges govt to stop process of accountability, arrests
June 20, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Former president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari urged the government to stop process of ‘hisaab kitaab’ [accountability], arrests and move forward. Addressing the National Assembly, after being brought to the house by the NAB team on the production orders, the PPP leader said that when his party came into power in 2008, after the 10-year tenure of Pervez Musharraf, he didn’t go after other politicians. “My arrest doesn’t make a difference to them, he said, but it does worry the common people. They say, if Zardari saab can be arrested, then what about us,” he said.
Govt, Opp should discuss economic policy to move forward
Zardari said that the government and the opposition should sit together and discuss an economic policy to move forward. He urged the government and opposition to sit together to talk about an economic policy and ownership of it. “Today you’re in power, yesterday we were and tomorrow it’ll be someone else,” he maintained. He added that it keeps changing but an economic policy should be made that will withstand all these changes. “Pakistan is here, so we’re all here, if there is no Pakistan, then none of us are anything,” he said.
If budget is so good why are people crying
Commenting on the upcoming budget prepared by the incumbent government, the PPP co-chairman said that Zardari said that industries were placing ads in newspapers saying, ‘Save us’. “If the budget is so good and so expected, why are people crying, why are industries crying?” he asked.
Budget raises salaries but it had also increased taxes
Zardari said that at the one hand, the government increased salaries of the government employees and on the other, also increased taxes. He also said that the cotton sector was neglected in the current budget. “The FBR even sends notice on a cheque of Rs5 lakh,” he said.
Zardari arrives at Parliament
Zardari arrived at Parliament House after his production orders were issued by the National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser a day earlier. The NA speaker also issued production orders for Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique. During Zardari’s appearance, his two daughters – Aseefa and Bakhtawar – were seated in the NA gallery while his son, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was also in attendance.
