Actor Randy Quaid to face fugitive charges in Vermont court
VERMONT – Actor Randy Quaid is due in a northern Vermont courtroom on Monday to face charges of being a fugitive from justice after being arrested over the weekend on outstanding warrants, according to a county prosecutor’s office.
Quaid, 65, was arrested along with his wive, Evi, while attempting to cross into the United States from Canada on Saturday and are being held awaiting extradition on arrest warrants outstanding in California, police said.
Quaid is known for movies such as “The Last Picture Show” and “The Last Detail,” for which he received an Oscar nomination, as well as the 1980s “Vacation” comedies. He is the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid.
It was not immediately clear why the arrest warrants were issued, but Quaid recently said they were related to a longstanding dispute over a property in Santa Barbara. Quaid and his wife were arrested in California in 2010 on suspicion of burglary and entering a building without consent.
Quaid said the building was their own home and that after a failed attempt to sell it, they still owned the property.
An attorney representing Quaid could not be reached for immediate comment. –Reuters
