Abbasi’s claim about increase in sugar prices due to export is a lie: Shahzad Akbar

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar has termed PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s claims about an increase in the sugar prices due to its export. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, he said that gamblers were responsible for the increase in the sugar prices. “The government had allowed export of 300,000 tons of sugar,” he said. The special assistant said that a subsidy of Rs20 billion was given in 24 hours just to benefit Salman Shehbaz without looking into the cost of production. He said that making the Sugar Commission report public was historic. “The forensic audit of the sugar industry has been conducted in a short period. The report carries surprising disclosures and has a complete charge-sheet,” he said. Shahzad Akbar said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had raised baseless questions about the report. “Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has continuously been telling a lie. He should have not told a lie had he gone through the commission report,” he maintained. He said that it had been written in the report that sugar was in abundance in the country when the export was allowed. “Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Asad Umar had appeared before the commission,” he said.
