ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced that the general elections will be held across the country on February 11.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa had directed the ECP to hold consultation with President Dr Arif Alvi today. The ECP counsel sought time for the consultation. Later, he informed the court about willingness to hold consultation with President Dr Arif Alvi.

The CJP, in the written order, asked the attorney general to ensure a contact between the ECP and the President. He remarked that the ECP should approach President Arif Alvi to decide the election date. "The ECP should inform the court after settling a date for the elections. The settled date will have to be implemented," he added.

CJP Qazi Faez Isa observed that all people want the elections. "The courts wants the conduct of the elections without any discussion. The President, the parliament and the ECP should perform their tasks. The SC will also not cross its domain. The court will intervene if some institution will not fulfill its responsibility," he remarked.

Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the President is authorized to decide the election date under the constitution. "All people, including the PPP, are responsible for the delay in the elections. Does the ECP want to hold itself responsible for the violation of the constitution," he observed.
