Govt likely to further increase power tariff by Rs 5 per unit on IMF demand

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The government is likely to further increase the power tariff further by Rs 5 per unit on the demand of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to sources, the Pakistan authorities have expressed their willingness to hike the power rate in the virtual dialogues held recently. The said that the government could increase the power rate by Rs 5 before July 10.

After increasing the power tariff, the government will fulfil the advance conditions before the IMF programme. The IMF has expressed its satisfaction over the decision of increasing the gas price.

On the other hand, the WAPDA has applied the fixed charges from Rs200 to Rs 1,000. About 300 percent increase has been made in the fixed charge of commercial consumers, while 355 percent increase has been made in the industrial use.
