LAHORE (92 News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday adjourned contempt of court proceedings against former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal till September 5. A three-member bench led by Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi heard a court of contempt case against Ahsan Iqbal for making anti-judiciary speeches. Iqbal’s lawyer informed the court that his client had submitted an unconditional apology in relation to the contempt of court proceedings against him. To reply, the bench questioned if Ahsan Iqbal had also accepted his mistake then the apology rendered to the court was more praise than a apology. The bench asserted that PML-N leaders submitted apologies in court and outside passed remarks that their party was being targeted. “if the verdict is in the party’s favour then the judiciary is right, otherwise it is wrong." Justice Atir Mahmood observed. "You tell us, which other party besides yours has commented on the judiciary?,” the justice also questioned. Ahsan's lawyer again requested from the court that to accept apology of his client and the contempt case against his client be ended. After that, the court adjourned the proceedings till September 5. The petition, filed against Ahsan Iqbal and other PML-N leaders, states that Iqbal and Nawaz used anti-judiciary remarks against the Supreme Court judges on April 25 and 23, respectively, and the same was aired by TV channels.
