Military courts not Army’s wish, but need of country: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor has said that the military courts are not wish of the Army, but need of the country. In an interview with a private channel on Friday, he said that there was a spell of terrorism in the country and the military courts were established to end it. “After 2008, the operation against terrorists was expedited. Terrorists were arrested in the operation,” he said. The DG ISPR said that Pakistan’s criminal justice system was not effective in resolving the cases about terrorists. “The parliament’s decision about the military courts was unanimous. The parliament gave the verdict in favour of military courts unanimously. The parliament extended the military courts tenure for two years,” he maintained. Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said that military courts had terrorized the terrorists. “The military courts will continue to function if the parliament extended their tenure,” he said. He said that as many as 717 cases were tried by military courts and of them, 646 cases were taken to the logical end.
