12 killed, 10 injured in stampede during ration distribution in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) - Twelve people, including women and children, were killed in a stampede during the distribution of ration in a private company near Naurus Chowrangi on Friday.

The deceased include three children. Ten people were injured in the stampede. The Rescue staff said that the deaths occurred due to falling in a drain during the stampede.

The deceased and injured have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A heavy contingent of police also reached the spot.

A case has been registered against the factory owner Abdul Khaliq and others. The police have arrested eight people, including the factory owner.

According to the police, the factory management had not informed the police about the distribution of the Zakat amount.

They said that the wall of the nearby 'nullah' also collapsed due to the stampede. Several people were injured after falling into the drain. During the stampede, the water supply pipeline also burst.
