Pakistan pledges to support UN peacekeeping efforts in war zones

NEW YORK (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the United Nations peacekeeping mission is the guarantor of world security and Pakistan will keep providing military commanders, officers and observers to support UN peacekeeping efforts. Addressing the United Nations Peacekeeping Summit co-chaired along with President Barack Obama at the UN Headquarters in New York, Nawaz Sharif said that UN Peacekeeping, despite its successes, faces new challenges in a rapidly changing strategic scenario. He said that Pakistan has consistently figured among the top troop contributors to the United Nations. The prime minister said that our professional, well-trained and competent peace keepers are deployed in the most difficult theaters, staying the course in Liberia, even during the Ebola outbreak. He said that Pakistan also remains committed to contribute to UN police requirements in the future. “Pakistan considers modern technology an important component of peacekeeping,” he said. The prime minister said that Pakistan would continue deployment of precious assets to ensure rapid deployment. Nawaz Sharif further praised the American president for organizing the conference for the peace in the world.
