Parliament's joint session passes Election Act Amendment Bill 2023

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The parliament's joint session on Wednesday passed section-wise the Election Amendment Bill 2023.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented the Elections Reforms Bill. The House rejected the amendment proposed by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed after Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar opposed it.

PPP's Jam Mehtab withdrew the amendment proposed by him in the Act. Several amendments were made on the pointation of the senators.

A section pertaining to the powers of the caretaker government was included in the Election Reforms Bill. The House agreed not to give unlimited powers to the caretaker government. Under the amendment, the caretaker will not be able to sign a new agreement. However, it will be empowered to ink the two-party or tri-party agreements.

The caretaker government will be able to use the power regarding the ongoing projects.
