Rain breaks 44-year-old record in Lahore, floods houses, streets & hospitals

LAHORE (92 News) - The provincial capital witnessed the record-high rainfall on early Thursday, inundating streets, houses and hospitals that gave a pond-like look after the rain.

According to the Met Office, the rain is likely to continue until August 6 with intervals. The Airport area received maximum downpour of 350mm, while Nishtar Town received 282mm, Iqbal Town 232mm and Pani Wala Talab 226mm.

People faced great difficulties due to the rain as motorcycles and vehicles were stuck in the rainwater. After the downpour, Services and General hospital drowned and rainwater also entered Services Hospital’s Emergency Ward. As a result, equipment and other items started floating.

Traffic was disrupted after Mughalpura Underpass drowned. Owing to the rain, over 300 feeders tripped in the city, causing disruption of the power supply. Two people were electrocuted in the rain-related incidents.
