SC moved to stop IHC from ruling on petition for Avenfield verdict suspension

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday asked the Supreme Court to stop the Islamabad High Court from ruling on an application seeking the suspension of the Avenfield case verdict. Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt Safdar (retired) have petitioned the Islamabad High Court to suspend the verdict in the Avenfield properties reference. The accountability court had sentenced Nawaz to 10 years in prison, Maryam to seven years and Capt Safdar to one year in prison. A petition submitted in the Supreme Court by NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal said the high court had not sent NAB a notice before accepting the convicts’ petition for hearing. "The high court cannot rule on the petition without hearing the NAB perspective," the petition says. The NAB chief also said the high court lacked jurisdiction in the case and should, therefore, be stopped from hearing it.
