SC nullifies all clauses except one of NAB amendments, restores all closed references

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan nullified all clauses except one of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments, declaring the application admissible.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial announced the reserved verdict by 2-1. The court termed all clauses of the NAB amendments in clash with the constitution.

The court also ordered the NAB to send all record to the relevant courts within a week.

The court ruled that all closed references are restored from the day when the amendments were made. The NAB amendment pertaining to the limits of Rs500 million and plea bargain has also been annulled.

The court also nullified the orders issued by the accountability courts in the light of the NAB amendments. The clauses of assets beyond means up to the government officers will remain intact.

However, the dissenting note by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was not read out while announcing the verdict.
