ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court on Friday revoked PTI former leader Faisal Vawda’s lifetime disqualification after he admitted his mistake in submitting a false affidavit.

The court also declared him eligible for contesting the next election after 2023. It also ordered to send his resignation immediately to the Senate chairman. However, he remains disqualified under Article 63(1)(c) of the Constitution, under which a legislator loses membership of parliament for one term only.

The verdict was announced by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and consisting of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Ayesha A Malik.

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that Faisal Vawda had been telling lies for three years. "We do not want to insult lawmakers. However, lawmakers will have to be serious about nomination and declaration," he remarked.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had disqualified Vawda in February for concealing his US citizenship and directed him to return the salary and other benefits he had received as a minister and as a member of the National Assembly within two months. It had also de-notified him as a senator.
