Angelina Jolie, John Kerry attend interfaith Iftar reception
WASHINGTON (92 News) – Actress and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Special Envoy Angelina Jolie and US Secretary of State John Kerry have on Tuesday attended an interfaith Iftar dinner hosted by an American Muslim Organization.
Angelina Jolie and John Kerry attended the reception as part of events marking World Refugee Day. The reception was also attended by the refugee children, Muslim Community and people from other religions.
Iftar is the evening meal Muslims have after fasting all day during Ramadan. It is eaten after sunset.
Angelina Jolie stressed the need to promote tolerance, while the US Secretary of State tried to dispel the impression that the doors are being closed for Muslims in the US.
The United Nations High Commissioner said that declaring someone guilty on the basis of religion is wrong, while Kerry said that refugees are not a threat to American society, adding that they are respected just like the other people of the society.
