Nawaz’s counsel allowed to be present during recording of statements

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) while accepting the petitions allowed a representative and counsel at the Pakistan High Commission in London during the recording of witness statements in the Avenfield supplementary reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

A Divisional bench of the IHC comprises of Justice Athar Minnallah and Justice Mian Gull Hassan Aurangzeb heard the case.

The petitions were filed by the ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz seeking court’s permission to allow a representative and counsel at the Pakistan High Commission in London during the recording of witness statements.

During the proceedings, NAB prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi said that the petitioners were trying to delay reference, adding that it was told in the court that accountability court (AC) that the witnesses were available between February 2 and February 6.

He said that the AC directed the Pakistan High Commission in London the witnesses are not under pressure.


The court while not dismissing the accountability court’s order accepted former PM Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz’s petitions and allowed a representative and counsel at the Pakistan High Commission in London during the recording of witness statements.
