Bill proposing 10-year term for child/forced marriage passed
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A bill proposing 10-year term and a fine of Rs one million for a child and forced marriage has been passed in the National Assembly.
According to the Criminal Laws Amendment Bill 2016, a 10-year term has been proposed for the person contracting marriage with underage or non-Muslim girl.
A three-year term has been proposed for a person provoking religious hatred and insulting religious sentiments.
Likewise, three-year imprisonment has been proposed for an accused or group torturing an accused. In case of death of an accused, other laws will also be applicable.
Meanwhile, important amendments have been made to the Qanun-e-Shahadat.
Penalties have been proposed for crimes committed through mobile phone and SMS.
