BJP hails Narendra Modi-Nawaz Sharif meet, Congress flays it
NEW DELHI (92 News) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif and its outcome on Friday evoked a mixed response with BJP seeing a ‘glimmer of light’ in the bilateral relationship while Congress termed it as neither historic nor a breakthrough.
National Security Adviser to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi claimed that Kashmir issue was not discussed during the meeting, while diplomatic confirmed discussion of Kashmir issue.
Ajeet Dowal said that Indo-Pak Security forces dialogue will be held in September to decrease border tensions.
Indian Home Minister Rajnath congratulated the prime minister on holding meeting with his Pakistani counterpart.
The minister said that the joint statement is a step forward towards normalising bilateral relations. However, the future outcome will be keenly watched.
On the other hand, Congress dismissed the BJP’s enthusiasm on the issue and said that Indian PM had no reason to meet his Pakistani counterpart.
Former foreign minister Salman Khursheed said that Indian PM should not have held meeting Nawaz Sharif after tense situation on the LoC.
