Cable car lift plunges into ravine in Murree, kills 11
MURREE (92 News) – Eleven people were killed and two others injured when a locally made private chair lift fell down in Murree on Thursday.
The accident took place on Thursday in Murree, a mountain resort outside the capital, Islamabad where the single chairlift fell into a ravine hundreds of feet deep.
The chairlift was installed by the local people between Charra Pani and Binwarri.
Rescue teams reached the site of the incident and .
Apparently the cables of the chairlift were not properly maintained, but a police investigation is underway.
The 12 villagers were using the cable car, which can usually carry up to 15, to get to the resort.
Murree is one of Pakistan’s most known mountain tourist resorts, popular with both local and foreign tourists.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over loss of precious lives in the local lift incident at Murree on Thursday.
