It is pertinent to mention here that Last week, the inauguration ceremony of Mohmand Dam project was rescheduled from Jan 2 to Jan 13.

“You changed the date without informing me; you did not think it was necessary to inform me,” remarked the chief justice. “I might not even attend the Mohmand Dam inauguration now.”

The top judge told Faisal Vawda to tell the prime minister to inaugurate the Mohmand Dam project himself. “Does the court not have any role in the construction of the dam,” asked CJP Saqib Nisar, further questioning why the inauguration date was changed without the court’s knowledge.

“The government did nothing for the dam project on its own. All it did was announced that by 2025, the country will face water shortage.”

Meanwhile, Faisal Vawda offered on apology “on behalf of the federal government” for rescheduling groundbreaking of dam without informing the CJP. He also urged the chief justice to attend the ceremony when it takes place.

Turning his attention to the Nai Gaj Dam, he demanded the reason behind the delay in the releasing of the funds and said that he would ask the attorney general to summon the finance minister for the next hearing.

“We will issue a notice if the finance minister does not appear for the next hearing,” he said, asking if the federal government was serious about constructing the dam.

The chief justice said that if the court had not taken up the case, the dam project would have remained in a limbo for the next two to three years. Justice Nisar asked Vawda to summon a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
