CJP Saqib Nisar takes notice of levy on mobile phone cards
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu notice of the levy on mobile phone cards.
The chief justice asked why mobile companies were withholding nearly 40 per cent of the face value of the cards. Under what tax heads was the amount collected, the CJP asked.
The Supreme Court issued notices to mobile phone operators in the country and summoned the attorney general to assist the court. The court will take up the case next week.
There is a 19.5 per cent federal excise duty on prepaid mobile phone cards, a 12.5 per cent withholding tax and a 10 per cent service/maintenance charge.
