CJP takes notice of ECP’s ban on appointments in govt departments
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu notice of Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision placing a ban on appointments in government departments.
While heading a three-judge bench hearing the suo moto case against ECP’s ban on appointments in government departments the CJP asked ECP Secretary as to under what law the ECP has banned the appointments in government departments as the appointments on key positions in various departments was in progress and would the ban affect those departments too.
Other members of the bench are Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan.
The ECP secretary told the court under Article 218 of the constitution holding transparent elections was ECP’s responsibility, adding that Election Act 2017 also gives the ECP right.
