CJP takes notice of Sharjeel Memon’s shifting from prison to hospital
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of shifting of former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon from prison to a hospital on Friday.
The apex court has issued a notice to Sindh Inspector General (IG) Prisons National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Director Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPGMC) and ordered to submit a reply to Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.
The CJP will hear the case at Supreme Court Karachi registry tomorrow (Saturday).
Earlier, an accountability court (AC) had indicted Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader and former Sindh minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and others in alleged corruption case of Rs5.76 billion.
In October last year, Sharjeel Memon was taken into custody along with other accused from outside the SHC main building after the court revoked their interim bail in a case pertaining to the corruption of Rs5.76 billion in the provincial information department.
Sharjeel Memon, who had returned to Pakistan in March this year after his two-year-long self-imposed exile, is facing several charges of misappropriation and corruption.
A reference filed against him related to the alleged award of government advertisements at exorbitant rates, causing loss of more than Rs five billion to the national exchequer.
