COAS briefs Senate committee on national security matters
ISLAMABAD (92 News) — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa briefed the Senate Committee of the Whole on national security matters on Tuesday.
DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, DG ISI Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar and DG Military Operations Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza were also present.
The session lasted for one hour, while there was a three-hour question-answer session. Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani chaired the session. The in-camera session was briefed about country’s security and tours of different countries.
Talking to the media, DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said that the session was in-camera which cannot be discussed in public. He said that Defence Committees of Both House visited GHQ, invited the COAS to the session and later the Senate chairman also sent an invitation.
He said that the meeting had been good and the DGMO had briefed the committee. The senators appreciated the role of the Pak Army. All of them agreed to work jointly for the progress of the country.
After the one-hour briefing, the COAS answered the questions by the senators for three hours.
The DG ISPR said that it is a matter of happiness that all the senators were aware of the security situation in the country. However, several senators could not get a chance to put questions.
