COAS Gen Raheel Sharif reaches Kabul on day long visit
RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has on Sunday reached Kabul on one-day official visit.
According to a statement issued by the Director General ISPR, COAS Gen Raheel Sharif will hold meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Dr Abdullah Abdullah and Afghan military leadership.
Matters pertaining to border management, regional situation and resumption of Afghan peace process will be discussed during the meeting with Afghan President. The Murree Peace talks were cancelled after the news reports of the death of Mullah Umer.
Sources said that the Afghan government and Taliban have expressed willingness to resume peace talks, while China and Pakistan are playing an important role in resumption of peace talks.
“The venue of peace talks has been decided and the dialogues will be resumed after consultation with all the rival parties from the second week of January, however the dates for dialogues will be decided after COAS Gen Raheel Sharif’s visit,” sources added.
