Contempt Case: SC orders to provide transcript of Daniyal’s statements to his counsel
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday ordered transcript of statements, given by Federal Minister for Privatization Daniyal Aziz, be provided to his counsel.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Azmat Saeed heard the contempt of court case against the federal minister.
During the proceedings, Daniyal Aziz through his counsel requested the top court to provide original record of charges against him in which Aziz has given controversial speeches and statements to which the court directed the lawyer to obtain the video clips from Press Information Department (PID).
The court also directed that the controversial statements made by Aziz be highlighted on the transcript.
Advocate Ali Raza, the counsel of for federal minister also submitted a reply in response to a show-cause notice of the apex court as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him for making derogatory remarks against the judiciary.
The court while ordering to provide transcript of statements given by Daniyal Aziz to his counsel, adjourned the hearing till March 6.
On February 19, the SC had issued a show cause notice in which three specific news items were recorded to Aziz in contempt of court case. The court had directed his counsel to submit a reply by Friday (today).
Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice of the federal minister’s remarks against the judiciary.
