Deaf & dumb Geeta recognizes her family, will be home soon
KARACHI (92 News) – Geeta, a deaf and dumb Indian woman living in Pakistan after accidentally crossing the border as a child, has found her family.
She will be flown home after 13 years, as soon as her documents are sorted out, say officials.
She was taken to the Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest charity, in whose care she has remained ever since. It was earlier reported that a sessions court in Karachi had dismissed an Indian lawyer’s application seeking custody of the deaf and mute Geeta and observed that diplomatic channels be used since the matter involved two countries.
Geeta, now 21, was found by Pakistan rangers 13 years ago, sitting alone on the Samjhauta Express in Lahore that had come across the Wagah border.
Geeta will be flown from Karachi to Delhi on a Monday when there is a direct flight. She is likely to make this important journey with a woman who has been her mother in Pakistan – Bilkis Edhi of the Edhi foundation.
