Death anniversary of ‘King of Ghazal’ being observed today
LAHORE (92 News) – The fourth death anniversary of ‘King of Ghazal’ Mehdi Hassan is being observed on Monday (today).
‘King of Gazal’ Mehdi Hassan was born in July 1927 in Indian state Rajasthan’s village Luna and his family was associated with the art of singing for sixteen races.
Mehdi Hassan received singing training from his home, while he migrated to Pakistan after the partition.
In 1957‚ Mehdi Hassan was given the opportunity to sing on Radio Pakistan‚ which earned him recognition within the musical fraternity.
He was honored with numerous awards including Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan.
Mehdi Hassan died on 13 June 2012 after a protracted illness in Karachi.
