ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has on Wednesday said that the democracy works only when there is a government, and a strong opposition as the Government runs the country and opposition keeps it on its toes.

Addressing the National Assembly session in Islamabad on Wednesday, Imran Khan said that it is the job of the opposition to call out when the government breaks the law, misuses tax money or embezzle public funds.

He said that 60,000 rupees a minute of a poor tax payer is being spent to run the parliament but what is the point of toothless opposition.

Khan said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hit out at his Bani Gala home, and made jabs at his travel and lifestyle. If he is so curious, he can put the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after him as all the institutions, the executive are answerable to the premier.

The PTI chairman said that Panama Papers is not a local expose but it’s an international story and it was their job to question.

He said that he put all his energies to build Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer hospital (SKMCH) in the 1990s, adding that if anyone suspect embezzlement of charity funds, they can investigate.

Khan said that he was accused of derailing democracy, and urged the assembly to save democracy and it can only be made when there is accountability and public service.

He said that the prime minister’s daughter Maryam Safdar, declared as the dependent of PM, has come out as owner of two companies that own those Mayfair apartments.

PTI chairman said that Nawaz Sharif said he was a brilliant businessman, but his tax records show something totally different, adding that he paid Rs 10 billion tax, but out of that Rs 8 billion was general Sales Tax (GST).
