Disqualified PM begins road show
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Disqualified former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has on Wednesday started his journey to Lahore from Islamabad via the famous Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) in a bid to show his popularity among the people despite security concerns following a bomb blast in the Punjab province’s capital.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership including Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Khajawa Asif bid farewell to Nawaz Sharif who embarked on his journey to Lahore road show via the famous Grand Trunk Road (GT Road).
Fear griped Sharif’s party workers after the truck bombing killed at least two persons and injured 30 others on Monday. “The security is an issue, though elaborate measures are being taken to make the journey free of any risk,” a PML-N leader said.
Nawaz Sharif has also planned to deliver speeches at important places where even bigger crowds of supporters are expected to turn up.
Before embarking on the journey, the former prime minister held a meeting with key party leaders, including Prime Minister Khaqan Abbasi and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
Carvan of the former Prime Minister is gathering at D Chowk, Islamabad from where it is to reach Faizabad via Zeropoint.
A large number of supporters and his party workers arrived at D-Chowk in Islamabad to see off Nawaz. Workers have also gathered at Express Chowk where Nawaz Sharif will make his first address of the rally, which will reach here after marching through Margalla Road and Embassy Road.
He will be given a reception at Mujahid Plaza, Faisal Chowk, Blue Area. Another reception will be hosted in his honor at Zero Point, I-8 and Faizabad.
Receptions will also be hosted at Shamsabad, Rehmanabad and Liaquat Bagh. The really will reach T Chowk after marching through Mareer Chowk and Kuchehry Road.
Later, the rally will reach Rawat City. The rally will reach Jhelum via Mundara, Gujjar Khan, Sohawa and Dina.
Nawaz Sharif will stay for a night at Sarai Alamgir.
The entire leadership of the party has been ordered to make Nawaz’s return to the city, after disqualification, a roaring success.
He would travel on Grand Trunk Road and is expected to reach Lahore by Thursday as party workers and supporters had arranged receptions in his honour at various locations.
He would enter the city from Shahdara and reach Data Sahib to offer prayers.
At Data Darbar Chowk, Sharif would address a large public gathering for which the party had already made arrangements.
