ECP orders PTI to submit reply in party funding case
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Thursday ordered the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to submit party funding details.
A four-member tribunal headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Muhammad Raza while hearing the petition filed by founding member of PTI Akbar S Babar in Islamabad on Thursday held that Election Commission has the powers to scrutinize the accounts details of the PTI.
During the proceedings, the CEC remarked that the commission had already given judgment regarding the jurisdiction of the hearing, adding that the PTI will have to present High Court’s stay order if it wants ECP to stop hearing the case.
The applicant Akbar S Babar said that the PTI is continuously avoiding submitting a reply to the Commission.
He said Imran Khan has been collecting funds from overseas Pakistani in the name of change.
On the other hand, the ECP also heard the case relating to the disqualification of PTI chairman Imran Khan.
During the proceedings, the counsel of Imran Khan requested the ECP to indefinitely postpone the hearing of his disqualification case.
The CEC remarked that the commission is ready to indefinitely postpone the case, but Imran Khan should first submit his reply.
The counsel of Imran Khan requested the tribunal to give his client some time to submit his answer. ECP accepted the request and gave him time till July 6.
