ECP seeks written reply from Yousaf Raza Gillani in disqualification case
March 22, 2021

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has conducted hearing on a plea seeking disqualification of PPP leader Yousaf Raza Gillani as a senator.

A four-member bench headed by Altaf Ibrahim Qureshi heard the matter during which, central deputy secretary-general of PTI Farrukh Habib and MNA Maleeka Bukhari appeared.

The PTI has filed a new plea making its two members of provincial assembly, who were shown in the leaked videos, as parties in the case.

Meanwhile, the ECP has sought written reply from the PPP leader and adjourned the hearing till April 5.

Earlier, the ECP has summoned PPP leader Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son Ali Haider Gillani on March 22 in disqualification plea filed by ruling PTI.

The ECP has directed the Senator to appear in person or through his lawyer for the hearing which will be conducted on Monday.

The petition has been filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shauzab, seeking disqualification of newly-elected Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani over the leaked video of Ali Haider Gillani.

The petition states that it is clear in the video that Ali Haider Gilani, an MPA from Multan, was telling other members how to waste their votes in order to benefit his father Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.

It further states that after the video went viral, Ali Haider Gillani himself appeared before the media and admitted that he tried to influence the Senate election. Therefore, the Election Commission is appealed to take action against Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son under Section 174 of the Election Act 2017.
