Ex-ETPB chief Asif Hashmi detained on CJ’s orders
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Following the orders of the Supreme Court, police have arrested former Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman and PPP leader Asif Hashmi from the courtroom on Thursday.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing of the case pertaining to embezzlement in the sale of ETPB land and illegal recruitment.
As the hearing started, the CJP asked about Asif Hashmi if he had returned to Pakistan or not to which his (Hashmi) lawyer said that he has arrived in the country.
Justice Saqib Nisar ordered the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) to arrest him from the courtroom.
On February 10, the former ETPB chairman had arrived Pakistan from Dubai where he was arrested in 2016. He expressed the desire to return to the country to face cases against him after the CJP had set a deadline of February 6 for him to appear in the cases he was facing in the National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency with regard to land deals, illegal recruitment etc.
