Farmers still worried after wheat crop reaches 33,000 metric tonnes
FAISALABAD (92 News) – As the Faisalabad’s 2016/17 wheat crop totals 33,000 metric tonnes which is higher than last year but the farmers are still worried.
The government still has storage of old grain due to which the target of grain could not be increased.
The farmers are facing issues to achieve gunny bags.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had said that the provincial government will buy 4 million tons of wheat this year with a sum of Rs 130 billion. Procurement process has already been started at 377 centers set up across the province.
The government had increased the support price of wheat from Rs1,200 to Rs1,300 per maund while delivery charges would be paid at the rate of nine rupees per maund to the farmers.
