KARACHI (92 News) – The electricity was not restored in different areas of Karachi after many hours of rainfall on Tuesday.

Few minutes of rain in Karachi exposed performance of K-Electric as rainfall plunged most parts of Karachi into darkness. The citizens continue to suffer from long hours of power outages on Monday evening on Tuesday.

Torrential rains wreaked havoc, bringing with it hours-long power outages in multiple neighbourhoods despite claims by the K-Electric that it had made improvements in its system ahead of the thunderstorm.

The areas facing power outage include Gulshan-e-Iqbal block, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gul Bahar, Malir, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Johar, Landhi, Korangi, North Nazimabad, Malir, Defence, and other parts of the city.

It was reported that the power supply to half of the city was disconnected due to the tripping of feeders.

Rain emergency after first monsoon spell

The monsoon system was said to have been in Karachi’s southeast since the morning and had strengthened due to humidity from the sea, leading to the first rain in Pakistan’s financial capital.

As the torrential rain accompanied by a thunderstorm started late afternoon in Karachi, two trees were reported to have been downed near Drigh Road on Shahrah-e-Faisal and the Arts Council of Pakistan, leading to traffic blockage.

Commuters are facing difficulties in transportation due to poor sewerage system during heavy downpour of monsoon season, at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Karachi.

Five killed, scores injured in rain-related incidents in Karachi

On Monday, five people were killed and scores injured in different rain-related incidents in Karachi. Several incidents of roof collapse and electrocution were reported during the rain. Traffic was badly disrupted due to incessant rain. During the rain, power supply to different areas was suspended. Vehicles were stuck up for hours due to traffic jam on all roads.

A majority of roads and areas gave a pond-like look. All the low-lying areas submerged due to the rain. Several trees were uprooted during the rain.

Citizens had to pay the price for the negligence of the Local Government Department. They said that the drains overflowed because garbage could not be removed from there.

On the other hand, emergency has been declared in all hospitals of KMC and holidays of the employees have been cancelled.

According to the Met Office, maximum rain of 42mm was reported in Sadr area. PAF Base Faisal received 26mm, Nazimabad 22mm, Base Masroor 12mm and Old Airport 10mm.
