First phase of LB Polls: Clashes mar polling in Punjab
LAHORE (92 News) – Polling is underway in 12 districts of Punjab in the first phase of local bodies’ elections in Punjab, in which more than 20 million voters will exercise their right to vote.
The polling started at 7:30am and will continue till 5:30pm in the evening without any break. However, the voters inside the polling stations will be allowed to cast their votes.
A total number of 16,266 polling stations have been established in twelve districts of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar, out of which, 3,551 polling stations have been declared high sensitive.
As many as 6,307 candidates are in race for chairman/vice chairman of District Councils in Punjab. At least 16 have been declared unopposed. A total number of 33,794 candidates are in the run for general councilors while 758 have been declared unopposed.
Meanwhile, reports of chaos and clashes have also been reported from different districts of Punjab, while a fake police official was arrested in Faisalabad’s UC-54 Abdullahpur.
On the other hand, a fake voter was also detained in Lahore’s UC-207, while polling was stopped in different polling stations due to clashes.
