Former PM Gillani’s son recovered from Afghanistan
LAHORE (92 News) – Ali Haider Gillani, the kidnapped son of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been recovered during an operation in Afghanistan on Tuesday.
As per details, the joint operation was carried out by the American and Afghan armed forces in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province.
In his message on social media website, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani received a call from ambassador of Afghanistan saying that the his son Haider Gillani has been recovered in a successful operation.
Ali Haider Gillani had been held hostage for three years by a suspected al-Qaeda-affiliated group.
Reports indicate that Gilani is in good health and had undergone a medical examination before returning home.
On the other hand, Foreign Office has confirmed the recovery of Haider Gillani
Afghan National Security Adviser Muhammad Hanif Atmar called the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and informed that Ali Haider Gilani was recovered on Tuesday in a joint operation carried out by the Afghan and US security forces in southeastern Ghazni province.
The Afghan national security adviser said that Ali Haider Geelani’s transfer to Pakistan is being arranged following required medical check-up.
Earlier, heavily armed men had kidnapped former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son Ali Haider after killing his secretary in Pakistan’s Punjab province three years ago.
Ali Haider, 27, was campaigning in Mati area of Multan, 350 km from Lahore, when the gunmen intercepted his SUV and fired indiscriminately. The gunmen, who came to the spot on motorcycles and a car, took Ali Haider away with them.
Afghan National Security Adviser said that Haider is completely fine and will be sent o Pakistan soon.
Political leaders from across the country have telephoned former premier Yousaf Raza Gillani and congratulated him on the recovery of his son.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif telephoned Yousaf Raza Gillani and congratulated him on the recovery of his son Haider.
Pakistan People’s Party workers are distributing sweets.
Ali Haider Gillani has been sent to Bagram airbase from where he would be sent to Pakistan.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed happiness over the recovery of PPP leader Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son Ali Haider Gillani, adding that he can understand the pain Gillani family had to go through.
