18 dead, 100 injured as factory roof collapses in Sundar Industrial Estate
LAHORE (92 News) – Eighteen people were killed while over 100 were injured when roof of a factory collapsed in Sundar Industrial Estate on Wednesday.
The factory owner Rana Ashraf has also died, while his son is missing.
The condition of 30 injured is said to be critical.
The rescue operation is still going on at the site. Army jawans are also participating in the rescue operation. Trained teams of Pak Army’s Urban Research and Rescue wings have been sent to Lahore by special plane.
Eyewitnesses said that cracks had appeared in the building due to the earthquake. “The building was temporarily closed, but the owners again started the work,” they said.
Several children who worked in the factory were among the deceased and injured.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also visited the site to monitor the rescue operation.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain, PTI leader Ch Sarwar and several leaders belonging to different parties have expressed grief and sorrow over the tragedy.
DCO Muhammad Usman said told the media that factory manufactured polythene bags. “It is a big loss. We are carrying out rescue activities carefully,” he added.
Commissioner Lahore Abdullah Sunbal also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in all hospitals of the city.
