DERA GHAZI KHAN (92 News) – Qandeel Baloch, a controversial social media sensation who was murdered by her brother, has been laid to rest after the funeral prayers which were offered in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Shah Sadar Din area on Sunday.
Fouzia Azeem aka Qandeel Baloch reportedly was strangulated by her brother in Multan on Friday night. Her father himself reported her tragic death. The shocking murder is a case of honor killing.
Ever since Qandeel shot to fame in Pakistan because of bold video, her brother and family had been threatening her to give up her modeling and to stop posting provocative videos.
She had written to higher authorities requesting for security as she had been receiving several threatening calls.
On the other hand, her brother Waseem who was arrested by the police has confessed to killing the social media sensation for honor.
“She was bringing disrepute to our family’s honor and I could not tolerate it any further. I killed her on Friday night when everyone else had gone to bed. My brother is not involved in the murder,” said Waseem.
Baloch, 26, was a polarizing figure in Pakistan and beyond. Her bold, often provocative, videos, photographs and comments went viral online, where she had more than 750,000 supporters on Facebook.
While Baloch was praised by some for her independence and defiance of social expectations, others subjected her to death threats and frequent misogynistic abuse.
