Government seeks action against TV channels broadcasting hateful speech; PEMRA issues notices to 14 TV channels
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The government has directed the Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take action against TV channels broadcasting the hateful speech.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a letter, has asked the PEMRA to submit a report after getting the recording of the speech delivered by MQM chief Altaf Hussain on the reservations expressed by the military authorities.
The letter stated that the government has serious concerns over the broadcast of provocative speech. It said that broadcast of hateful material is tantamount to incite people’s sentiments.
The government has sought action against the TV channels broadcasting the hateful material under article 27 of PEMRA Rules.
Meanwhile, the PEMRA has issued notices to 14 TV channels for broadcasting hateful material.
