Govt decides to take countrywide census in March 2016

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The government has decided to take countrywide census next year in March.

The decision was made in governing council meeting of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) chaired by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

It was also decided that assistance will be sought from the Pakistan Army for ensuring secure and smooth census. The meeting approved budget of Rs 14.5 billion for this nation-wide exercise. The initial data from the census will be compiled till June 2016.

The meeting reviewed the methodology to be used in the Census-2016 along with major questions to be asked in the Census Operation.


It also approved the composition of National Census Apex Committee. Briefings on the conduct of agriculture, livestock and machinery census and on the re-basing of National Accounts were also made.
