Hawks Bay Tragedy: Funeral prayers of 11 people offered
KARACHI (92 News) – The funeral prayers of 11 people who drowned yesterday at Karachi’s Hawks Bay beach were offered on Sunday.
The funeral prayer of the deceased people was attended by a large number of people at Babul Islam mosque in North Karachi.
Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Asif Husnain, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alvi, Hafiz Naeem also attended the funeral prayers.
The funeral prayer of one person who drowned yesterday will be held later in the evening.
Earlier, twelve members of a family, including a girl and a boy, drowned at Hawks Bay yesterday. They had come for picnic from different parts of the city when they were caught up in the waves and lost their lives.
Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal had said that police stopped the family from swimming in the sea, but they ignored them and proceeded to the rough sea.
Hawks Bay is one of the famous beaches in the city, which turns notorious for drowning during the monsoon season every year.
Authorities stop people from bathing in the sea during the monsoon season, but some of the tourists ignore their advice, which leads to casualties every year.
Last month, three Saudi nationals including a senior diplomat’s son were killed while swimming in the sea off Hawks Bay.
